- Call for papers: A special issue of Journal of the Australian Mathematical Society dedicated to Alf van der Poorten. Submissions are solicited in all areas of mathematics, and especially in the areas close to the research interests of Alf van der Poorten (e.g., recurrence sequences, continued fractions, diophantine approximation, and p-adic numbers). The submission deadline is 1 May 2011. It is hoped to have all submissions evaluated and make the acceptance/rejection decision by the end of October 2011 with the goal to have this issue to appear early 2012. The Editors are: Francesco Pappalardi, Jeffrey Shallit and Igor Shparlinski. Please direct all submissions to Igor Shparlinski igor.shparlinski@mq.edu.au .

- Special year in Number theory at IMSc, Chennai, from December, 2010 to March, 2012 to celebrate 60th Birthday of Professor R. Balasubramanian. Under this programme many experts from all over the world will be delivering month-long courses. These distinguished mathematicians will talk about Diophantine geometry, Additive number theory, Analytic number theory and Modular forms. Most of these courses would end with open problems in the respective areas. The plan is to support interested mathematicians to attend these lectures by providing them local support and domestic travel. Students are required to arrange for one recommendation letter from a faculty member. Please write to ntychennai@imsc.res.in for financial support. The deadline for applying for the first course is 20th of November, 2010 and for any other course it is at least one month in advance.
